She said we were having a conversation but she never let me talk. I pretended I was understanding but I didn`t even hear. "One step and you fall": that was the last sentence, the only sentence I actually assimilated. I smiled like she was saying the sun was shining. All I had in my head was the "one step and you fall" warning and the images I captured through the window while she was talking. The rain, the cars passing by,the leaves on the floor, people walking fast....everything goes too fast.
Now I wonder what was the speech before "one step and you fall".... was she talking about love? Fear? Fear of falling in love? Was she talking about a prosaic thing like falling down the stairs?
She got up, said bye and walked away. She was relieved that someone listened to her but I didn`t. She is an interesting person who can keep a conversation about all the subjects you can think of. I like to listen to her. I like what she says but somehow she reports me to my thoughts and imagination and makes me think, makes me think about the time running fast and the connections between people. When she walks away, I get back from this hidden place of my own and I wonder about her interesting speech.
"One step and you fall". I took a sip of my hot chocolate and left the cup on the table.
